I really want a guinea pig, but my mom won't let me for some reason. I told her I would care for it everyday and i would bathe it at least 1 or 2 a week...but she still won't get me one. The only way i will get one is if she surprises me with one for my birthday..but what if she doesn't? My question is...how do I get my mom to get me a guinea pig??

  1. It just depends if she wants the pet in her home. If you have no job the parent will have to provide for this animal , which they may not want to. It is a long commitment and lots of money to care for animals. Sure you can give it TLC but money wise may be put on your parents right? You should either wait until you have a job and you can provide for this animal or she may not feel your responsible enough.

  2. Well you should try saving up your money to pay for one yourself (unless you have already done that) that might convince your mom that you are responsible enough to take care of one. I really wanted a rat and the only way i could get one is if i paid for the cage all by myself.

  3. When I first realized that I wanted a guinea pig, I begged night and day. My parents still said no. So, I made them a deal- If I could keep my room clean (spotless would be a better definition) for a month or so, then I had shown the right level of 'maturity and responsibility' to take on having a guinea pig. They accepted, assuming that I wouldn't be able to handle it, and one month later I had a guinea pig.

    :)

PS; Guinea pigs do not need to be bathed that often- about twice a year would be more accurate. :)

  4. Show your mom some signs of responsibility like doing the trash weekly and cleaning a room not your bed room daily, prove to her you can, that's what I expect from my boys.

  5. You can't make a parent do anything.

And the promise of bathing? I doubt that's what she's concerned about, as guinea pigs aren't known for their need of bathing, really.

She's probably more concerned for cost, where to keep them, if you'd take care of them for their lifetime- they can live up to eight years, are you going to care for them for that long?- and maybe she just doesn't WANT a pet- some people don't!

Try earning money for at least the guinea pigs. It costs a LOT of money to buy everything for a guinea pig for the inital start up, and it's unfair of your mum to foot the bill if it's an animal for you.

  6. If you've discussed it with your mom and she still says no, then that should be the final answer. Have you researched what it takes to truly care for a guinea pig? Guinea pigs require quite an amount of space, food, and time--more than you might think. If you really want a furry pet, you could try something smaller with less maintenance (a hamster, for instance).

If you do manage to convince your mom to get you a guinea pig, try to adopt from a shelter instead of buying from the pet store. But please use my sources below, if you haven't already found these great sites.

  7. you should say i will pay for it and the food if she gets you the hutch for your birthday or something
