I was looking to spend 700-900 on a receiver but this caught my eye.

Is it worth it? Am I just paying more because it's a Sony or is there a comparable Onkyo thats cheaper? I would like 3+ 1.3 HDMI outputs, Sirius compatibility, top of the line up/down converts, and 3+ optical outputs. Most of the other features like the Dolby TrueHD I don't know what they are but I like quality sound so I probably need them. Should I just spend the extra money?

  1. I am in the same situation you are in.  I am currently looking at the Onkyo 805 or a Pioneer elite 91 or 92.  I think I am going to end up with the Onkyo for the main reason that it is THX Ultra 2 certified which means proven sound quality.

  2. I'd recommend instead the Onkyo 805 or 875.

  3. For that price range you will get a better receiver with Onkyo than with sony....Sony's stuff is way overpriced in my books.
