  1. 1 a reputable trainer to work with and teach you all the stuff you need to know

    Other than that

    Halter

    Lead Rope

    Headstall

    Bit

    Reins

    Saddle Pad

    Saddle

    probably a lunge line

    Barn

    Stall

    Hay Rack

    appropriate riding clothes

    Boots

    Grain Tub

    Water Bucket

    p**p Fork

    p**p Bucket

    Brush

    Face Brush

    Curry Comb

    Hose

    Nozzle

    Shampoo

    Hoof Pick

    Mane & Tail Brush

    Hay

    Grain

    Treats

    and sooooooooo much more........

Horses are very expensive and a huge commitment.  Working with a trainer and joining a 4-H group would be a great step to get you on your way.  Even consider going to a trainer for lessons on their horse for a while to make sure this is really what you want.

  2. first you need a pasture, stable, supplies: hoof pick, brush, comb, vitamins, worm-er, feed, hay, saddle, bridal, bit, whips, lead rope, clippers, saddle blanket, fly mask, riding boots, horse treat, mice repellent, fly repellent, trailer , and you need to get an older horse that has been ridden often so you will not get hurt. when you really get into the horse buissness, get two or more horses. if you only have one horse it can get lonely and depressed and die. i suggest a 6 yr old mare and a younger gelding( a "fixed" male horse). always make sure your horse drinks water before eating. if it eats first and then drinks, the hay will get wet, swell and the horse will get collic and die. i have horses so i know what i'm talking about. hope it helps.

  3. first you get riding lessons

after a few years you start leasing a horse to see if that what you really want to do (mucking out stalls, grooming, tacking, bathing, yourself getting really dirty, and other things)

then after a while (not a month or 2 but a couple of years of leasing) you look for a horse to buy

-tack (saddle, bridle, bit, saddle pad)

    -grooming stuff (brushes, shampoo)

-a stable to board him at

    -$$$$$

    -feed

there is alot of stuff you need before you can buy a horse

many people go out and buy a horse because they look pretty and the person has always wanted one

this was the problem with my old horses owner.  she didnt have much experience riding and one day decided that she was gonna get a horse that was on the other side of the country.  she had no experience with horses and didnt really know what to expect when she got her horse (green horse with green rider really dont work well together)

then the lady got a new horse and sent the other horse back to the original owner

this horse was calmer but he is still a handful

she didnt ride him out of the barn until i finally talked her into taking him to the riding area not far from the stable

that was the first time in about a year that he had been out of the stable

dont be like his old owner and get a horse without any real knowledge about horses

she was very sweet but just didnt know what to do

take my advice and get lessons, lease, and then buy a horse

after my last set of riding lessons i leased a horse.  the lessons were over 5 years ago and i havent had any real lessons since then
