See if you have Virgin Media in your area, i'm pretty sure they would be cheaper.  If finding the money all at once is a problem BT will sometimes split the cost, so that you can pay the instalation fee in installments.

Go to Virgin Media's website and you can enter your post code and they will tell you instantly if they have cable in your area.

BT will let you pay the £124.99 over 6 months, but its still expensive. Let us know how you get on.

Unfortunately unless you are in a cable area, BT is the only company that can install a line into your house, and the reason is they own all the lines in the country.

Other firms can offer line rental because BT Wholesale can offer a wholesale price to them.

I believe there is one exception however and that is in Hull, where I am led to believe there was a different company.

if there was previously a BT line installed at the house, you shouldn't be paying £124.99 to switch it back on.

go with virgin media, i have just paid the £124.99, and the engineer did not even have to enter my home he just flicked a switch in the green box at the end of my street. rip off, but i had no chose because virgin said they could not connect to my house ???

The only other way is with Virgin. DO NOT GO WITH VIRGIN!!! They are a bunch of lying, incompetent, immoral b*stards. If you go with them you are also stuck for broadband, as no other company will go through their phone line. Believe me, BT may be c**p, but they are by far the lesser of two evils. If I hadn't been tricked into unwittingly entering into a contract with Virgin I'd happily pay the £125 for a BT line.
