  1. I thought Indians were of Asiatic descent.

  2. Not known, but reported.  At about the time of Alexander the Great (perhaps 400 to 300 BCE), there were numerous reports and listings that mention three races of humans.

The forth race was added after 1495, when reports came back from the New World.

There has been little work done in mapping or relating the DNA of most ancient indigenous people specimens found in North American, the state of Maine included.  You might find the sites below interesting.

  3. "Carolus Linnaeus (1707-78), a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist, who laid the bases of binomial nomenclature (the method of naming species) and is known as the "father of modern taxonomy" (the science of describing, categorizing and naming organisms) was also a pioneer in defining the concept of "race" as applied to humans. Within Homo sapiens he proposed four taxa of a lower (unnamed) rank. These categories are, Americanus, Asiaticus, Africanus, and Europeanus."

  4. I'm not sure about the Paleo Indians specifically, however, an experiment was performed, in which worldwide DNA results were fed into a computer, and it was asked to separate the results into 2 groups:

It divided them into Sub-Saharan Africans + everyone else.

When it was asked to separate the results into 3 groups, the results were:

Sub-Saharan Africans, Caucasoids + everyone else.

    4 groups, resulted in:

Sub-Saharan Africans, Caucasoids, Mongoloids + everyone else.

    5 groups, resulted in:

Sub-Saharan Africans, Caucasoids, Mongoloids, Australoids + Amerindians (Native Americans)...
