Keep the orange tip. It indicates that what you have isn't a real gun, so you don't get shot by an excited police officer or gun-carrying citizen.

You could always paint over it. HOWEVER, you will be committing a crime punishable by law. If you get lucky you'll just get a citation,a little less luck and a tix + a bit of jail time. If you have have really bad luck you could even be shot and killed by an over zealous cop, although if God really hates you: you might be shot and NOT killed, only paralyzed, so you get to spend the rest of your life being spoon-fed and shitting your pants all the while wishing you had listened to us idiots on-line who told you to leave it alone.

It is orange so that people know it's a toy and you don't get a magnum lobotomy, that's even more uncool than having an orange barrel on your gun.
