  1. remember the fish you want as a pet is wild and not meant to be in a cage. I am sure purina has a fish chow you can feed the creek and they will hang around the area you feed them at that way you can watch them in their own world instead of killing the wild need to be free in what you want to call a pet, but is really a prisoner.

  2. Joe brings up some very good points. Get your buddies together and do some leg work. Clean up the trash that you can safely get to and look in the creek for some deep holes where the bass can winter over. We have small creeks and streams that support small pickerel, bass and bluegills during the spring, summer and fall months. Most of these creeks lead to small ponds with deeper water and the fish migrate there for the winter. You may want to mention your creek cleanup to the local newspapers. It would be a good story and may generate more help for your cleanup efforts. I am impressed with your efforts to protect our fish and wildlife resource at a young age. Good luck, be safe and thank you for being an inspiration!

  3. What you are planning to do is illegal in many states, but once you get your tank at the optimum temperature and ph level for the bass - you might just think about getting some cover in the tank - then you can release shiners in the water as his food source and occasional goldfish wouldn't hurt either - you might want to get 2 bass though - companionship...

Don't forget how you have to put other fish into a new tank - in a bag of water allowing them to get used to the temperature etc. it may be an issue with the shiners (but I doubt it). You may have to get a water heater for the tank as bass prefer warm water. I'd keep them in the tank until they outgrow it... then release them.

There must be some deep holes where you could release them where they would live thru the winter. If the water is so bad why not try to help clean it up?  Get involved with some organization that removes trash from rivers / lakes etc or get some friends together... hey every little bit helps.
