  1. Parrotlets are marvelous little companions, packed full of intelligence and curiosity and with all the attitude of their larger Amazon cousins.  If you purchase a baby that is not only hand fed but *well socialized* and if you handle him frequently, he should be a wonderful pal.  They do tend to be a bit territorial over their cages though so you may have to train it to either step up from a perch attached to the door or to come out of the cage on its own and step up from the cage top.

  2. I recommend a parakeet also.  Try and find a hand fed baby, they are easier to tame.

  3. you should get a big enough cage that a bird can fly a little. usually, birds like to perch on your finger. i suggest a parakeet. get two though. iit doesnt matter if its a male and female. they probably wont breed. they can go crazy wihout company.

  4. parrotlets love to play and almost never fly if they don't need to.  Make sure you buy hand-tamed ones.  But really, birds are not the best pets to pet and hold it in your hand- I don't know of any small birds that actually like to be held.  I recommend getting a cat or a hamster- they are much more interactive.  You may be frustrated that your bird doesn't want cuddling

  5. All birds need to fly and get their exercise. But, I think what you are wanting is one that is tame enough hold.  I don't really care for parakeets so I won't suggest one.  The first thing you need to do is decide what species you want.  Then once you decide this you need to make sure that you are buy a HAND FED baby.  Not a parent fed or breeder bird.  I'm not sure how small you mean so i I will list them and then you can do further research on the species.  However, I will recommend that you get a cockatiel as they are naturally sweet and very forgiving little birds with great temperaments.  They are also low maintenance and don't need as much time as other some of the other birds.

    My suggestions:

    cocktiel

parrotlet (the worlds smallest parrot.  Smaller than a parakeet with just as much attitude as it's larger cousins)

    quaker parrot

    green cheek conure

    sun conure

    lovebird

  6. I have 4 cockateils,1 fish and 2 hamsters. I would prefer to get 1 cockateil because, they are very loveable, soft and when they bite it dosent really hurt, you just get scared. they need alot of love and attention. and one wont go crazy by itself. I take mine out when i do my homework and he will stay on my shoulder. P.s. they dont tend to fly around unless they get scared.     GOOOD LUCK!

  7. Hello, right now I am houseing 28 parrots of all kind

I think a cockatiel is the best starter bird and not much trouble.

But, all birds are social animals..if you do not hold it, play with it, talk to it ..it will bite and get mean no matter if it is hand fed or not.

They also need excerise..if you have it wings clipped and it can not fly they need to be able to climb around .Mine are out of thier cages all day long and climb on ropes, swings and toys. they have above thier cages.

And they are in their cages when I am not home and at nite

There is many nice books to help you learn.

But please remember.. most birds like to be with their people.. After awhile people get bored or their lives changes and forget about that bird

The bird will gets aggressive, sick, and so on..

This is why I have 28 parrots

Every breathing thing it needs attention

    Parrots are wonderful Pets

    GOOD LUCK
