  1. Start by figuring out what you want to say. What issues are important to the students at your school? How will you, as student president, deal with those issues? If you don't know what people want, then start by thinking about what they most complain about. Ask them what changes they would like to see. Pick the top two or three issues to cover in your speech.

    Examples:

    - a school rule everyone thinks is too strict, such as not letting people leave the building when they don't have classes

    - school problems that aren't dealt with, such as harassment in the bathrooms, locker theft, bullying

    - things people would like to see, such as student plays and concerts at lunchtime, classes in entrepreneurship or current teen lit, a peer tutoring office, etc.

Write it up, just to get words on paper. Or at least outline it.

Once you have your first draft or outline, slant it so you stir people up. You want to get them agreeing with you, cheering you on. Make them angry about something that hasn't been changed, then say how you'll change it.

Use the most colorful, incendiary, revolutionary words you can to get them going. And gentle it down when you want them to feel relief or joy.

End on a positive note, make them feel hopeful, happy, excited.

Maybe create a slogan and use it a few times during the speech, perhaps after every paragraph or topic.
