  1. yeah xpecially with ppl that age

they are playful and good to have around

  2. yes they are nice dogs it is all in how you raise them.  My friend has one and the kids lay on him and he doesn't even move and the youngest is 2 years old, oldest is 12 yrs.

  3. Rescue centres are full of staffies at the moment, please consider giving one of them a good home!

There was an awful story on the news this morning that people are breeding staffies to sell for drug money, as a result some rescues have over 50% of their residents being staffies.

  4. They are generally very placid and friendly dogs - but - they have a great deal of energy and to exercise one properly it needs at least one 10 mile walk per day to keep it fit, physically and mentally. Lack of exercise and over feeding can easily lead to behavioural problems and that is when they can turn aggressive for no apparent reason.

  5. I can't tell you any personal experience, since I don't have any, but I thought these sites might be helpful to you.

  6. Yep as long as you raise them right. We have one and we also have an English Mastiff, 4 cats and a 12 year old. He gives a ton of kisses and is always happy to see you. Just be sure to socialize him with other dogs and stop any aggressive behaviour while he's little and you should never have any troubles.

  7. SBTs are wonderful dogs. Make sure you buy one from a reputable breeder who Kennel Club registers therir litters or you won't know whether or not you have a cross breed. Reputable breeders also do all the health checks necessary before breeding:

  8. I watched a show last night called Animal Witness on the dogs they rescued from Michael Vick's house, what I didn't know about Pit bulls is that they are pleasers, all they want to do is please their owner that's why people can get them to fight so well because all the dog is trying to do is please their owner.  They can make excellent pets if handled and raised properly they can be very good around children, but like any breed of dog they must be raised around them and raised and handled properly.  They are incredibly easy to train because all they want to do is please their owner so they will do anything to accomplish that.

Many of the dogs that were rescued from Michael Vick's establishment went to good homes, in fact one even became a certified therapy dog.  They must be socialized very well with people and other dogs at a young age, but pretty much make great pets.

    Good luck

  9. I've had my staffy for 10 days now....not too keen on my kids but talking to a dog trainer looks as though his last home the kids there have teased him so thinks my are going to.....(Rosco will be 3 in November) I would have preferred to have had him from a pup because they can be head strong/stubborn.....he was castrated yesterday so I slept in the kitchen with him, bless.  (Need my own bed tonight)

  10. My sister has had 3 staffys all of who were gorgeous and docile! Her staffy at the moment is probably the nicest dog I've met [which considering I've had 4 myself I feel a bit mean saying] but she climbs on your lap for cuddles and loves playing, but shes never even play bitten anyone! and she was a rescue dog who was abandoned when she was one!

  11. They sure are.  As long as the dog is trained and well socialized, you will be fine.

My dog is a great dog.  He loves people, including children and by no means is he aggressive.  He has been properly trained, passed obedience classes and has a very high temperament.

Here is a site that will tell you a lot about this great breed:

Check www.petfinder.com for your dog.  You can search by breed, location, etc.  Best of luck to you.

  12. Staffordshire Bull Terriers can make wonderful pets and will be great with your teenagers who can take him or her for nice long walks, they love people so having teenagers around to make a fuss of them will be good.

You need to be very cautious where you get the dog from though as they are being bred by lots of people who really should not be breeding dogs.

The Dogs Trust would be able to help match you with a suitable staffordshire bull terrier as they have quite a few in their rescue centre. (most rescue centres are full of unwanted staffies).

The breed has suffered because of the popularity to own one amongst certain irresponsible individuals.

I would go to the dogs trust centre and discuss the possibility of owning a staffie with them as they have lots of experience and knowledge on matching people with dogs. They have some really nice staffies who will have been carefully assessed.

The following is a link to their website which also provides a lot of useful information
