  1. For options there are two excellent sites for basic information:

    http://www.cboe.com/LearnCenter/default....

    http://www.optionseducation.org/

Both sites are free and have accurate information. They are both produced by professional options organizations.

I know less about futures trading, but I would use similar criteria in looking for a free tutorial. I would want one created by an exchange, not one that will be trying to sell me a specific product. Hence I would probably a tutorial such as

    http://www.cbot.com/cbot/pub/page/0,3181...

    or

    http://www.cme.com/edu/res/intro/trading...

Please remember that such on-line tutorials only give you basic information, but that should be enough to help you determine if you want to pursue your education further. For options, and I assume for futures, there are several excellent books. Such books will teach you everything you need to know without spending thousands of dollars on expensive seminars.

  2. Out of those two choices I would start with options trading because futures trading is very risky.  On the other hand you also make a lot of money very quickly on the futures market.  Most brokerages maintain a futures customer for only around 6 months, because they lose a lot and get out.  Future accounts often work from margin and require a heft minimum maintance balance.

I would start by learning some basic combination options strategies such as a straddle, covered call, and collar.  By utulizing some of these techniques you can really limit your down-side risk.

  3. There are a couple of articles on my website for options for beginners. http://www.shareworld.co.uk

Also there is a Q &A on the home page where I would be pleased to answer any problems you have.

  4. Well, I have a Yahoo group about investing :

    http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/sc...

you can sign up with the username and password you commonly use for all Yahoo services
