I have a 97 Honda Civic. I think on average i get about 27-29 mpg. I was wondering if u guy knew anything that would help me get better gas mileage. I know I already have good gas mileage, but I wanna make it the best ever! lol. I just bought this fuel injector stuff ( forgot whats it called, started with L) so that should do a little better. So anything would help thanx

And as a bonus question if u guys have any suggestions on stuff for my engine or just overall make my car last longer, thatd be awesome!

  1. Ethanol blended gas gets only 70%-80% mpg compared to gasoline. Be sure to look at the stickers on the gas pump prior to filling up. Also fill up at night time and/or cooler temperatures to get more gas for your $$$. Thinner oil will give you better gas mileage try 5w20 during the summer months and fuel economy should improve. But it is not recommended to use thin oil in colder climates.

  2. check you actual gas mileage...'about' won't tell you what you need to know.  find out.

to do so, fill your car until the pump shuts itself off.  do NOT top off.  set the 'trip odometer' to 0.  drive until you need gas again, fill your car until the pump shuts itself off.  divide # of miles on trip o by the gallons used.  this number is your actaul gas mileage.

now, some easy things to do that will improve fuel economy and will pay for themselves easily and soon.

    1.  high flow filter.  an AirAid (probably best on market) , a 'Green Filter' (yes, that's the actual name) or a K&N.  most people see 5-12% improvement.  doesn't sound like much?  well, it's enough to pay for itself in 3-6 months... everything after that is bonus.

    2.  synthetics.  make sure you get the right ones though, no all synthetics are created equal.  if you do it yourself, a synthetic oil change costs about 50% more than a conventional one, but since you only need to do one for every two conventional you will be saving money here anyway.  plus, if you get a decent synthetic, you'll see 7-15% improvement in fuel economy.  this one for me returns about $350 a year in fuel savings and reduced oil changes.  i have tested Amsoil, Royal purple, Mobile 1, Pennzoil, Valvoline and Castrol Syntec.  in all of the 5 cars i've tested in, the Castrol has by far the best return on investment.  it gets nearly the best fuel economy initially, but easily the best after 6K as it has hardly degraded while the expensive oils have degraded to conventional oil fuel economies by this point.  putting synthetic in your trans will also help similarly.

    3.  suspension, rims, exhaust can all improve your fuel economy, however their cost makes their return take 2 years or longer to pay back on... if you ever do, but with enough of these you can make your civic get close to a prius and still cost thousands less.

  3. Tire pressure at 30psi.

Keep car clean for aerodynamics and weight. Use trunk only when you want to.

Accelerate slower and drive slower and use brakes less.

  4. Rev less

    if can close Air-con

    drive it around like 80km/h

  5. Fill up the tank and go to autozone and buy Fuel injector cleaner get like 2 or 3 bottles there around 1.99 each or 99 cents depends on where you get it open your gas tank up and pour one bottle in run your gas down to a quarter tank and fill it up and put the next bottle in do it 3 times an this should up your gas mileage a little bit also once in a wile through a little bit of a higher grade gasoline in your car it will make it run better smoother do it once every 6 moths to a year its like eating a good healthy meal every once in a wile it will clean out the engine and make sure your oil is clean and changed every 3-4 thousand miles and you should be fine, other then tire pressure and all that trust me i have a 99 eclipse and the thing gets S****y gas so i try and do this every once in a wile and it helps it really helps take my word for it.

  6. outside of keeping it tuned and full tire pressure not much to do...any modifacations will not pay 4 themselvs
