I want to buy a couple or few fishes. And i was wandering, which fishes should i buy, as it'd be my 1st time buying fishes. I've looked into goldfishes, but they seem too common.

Any ideas, please?

  1. Goldfish are NOT beginner fish, despite the common misconception--they need very large tanks and heavy filtration.

Here's a list of some hardy, easy to care for fish:

White cloud mountain minnows (my personal favorite, and they don't need a heater)

    Platies

    Guppies

    Mollies

    Swordtails

Most of these fish need at least a 10 gallon tank, although swordtails and sailfin mollies need a 20 gallon.

Before you buy fish, though, it is VITAL that you read up on them so you can care for them properly.  Also, read about fish tank cycling--that's equally important.

  2. tetras mine had its tail bit off and lived 2 years before hubs changed the water an fried it by putting to warm of water in, think thats what its called very hardy they are

  3. If you want to start small I would recommend some White Clouds who will stay in the mid/top area of your tank and some African Dwarf Frogs which will stay at the bottom. Both species can be kept in groups and are extremely easy to care for (+fun to watch). They will both accept most food but love Blood Worms. Find more details from these two links:

  4. Betas are very pretty but unfortunatley you can not pair two betas in the same bowl. BUT the plus is the bowls you can make very pretty and add bamboo etc. and betas have unique features.

  5. If it's cold water you can put guppies in your tank if it's indoors as they tolerate lower temperatures well, or white cloud mountain minnows, they will go inside or outside.  Both are a bit more interesting than goldfish!!

  6. You'd be a lot better off asking at a pet store that sells fish, to be honest.

Just ask for some that are fairly easy to maintain.

  7. First of all tropical or cold water.

    Tropical

Platties, Guppies, Swordtails, Mollies, Dwarf Gourami, Tetras, Cichlids, coryadora, clown loaches these get quite large.

You must first do proper research on what fish you are thinking of getting if they will be suitable for you and if your tank is equipped for them and large enough. Make sureyour tank has cycled properly. Happy fish keeping and welcome

  8. Yes goldfish are very common but are great for first fish because they only need a fish bowl for awhile. Try not to get into the more fancy fish or salt water fish yet because they are a hassle as a first fish. There are many types of goldfish, check Pets Mart

  9. guppy mollies platys are good starter fish
