i'm an overly social person. and i just can't seem to focus when people are around. also, i HATE the teaching methods at public schools. i like to motivate myself at everything. i made up my mind that i want homeschooling. i'm a JR at high school right now. and i can't stand another day at school, or another report card.

how can i convince my mom. she keeps on mentioning how other kids go to school, and don't seem to have problems. and i keep on reminding her that i'm not like other kids,

EVERYONES DIFFERENT. and i want her to understand that.

i already know how home schooling works. i asked all my friends that have it.

the problem is convincing my mom.

how can i?

  1. That's easy!

    Do the research.

    Start off by :

Finding out how to homeschool legally in your state.  www.hslda.org

Depending on the laws in your state will determine how you will homeschool.

I use Penn Foster high school.

    www.pennfosterhighschool.com  I use a private school so it's $900.

There are also online public schools, too.

www.flvs.net  This is an online public school that is based in FL, but the accept students from all around the world.

  2. KIDNAP UR MOTHER AND DO WAT U WANT

  3. You are so close to the finish line. Keep going! You can make it! Really!

I'm not sure that it makes a bunch of sense to switch to homeschooling in the middle of your junior year.

Have you looked into taking classes at a community college? Quite possible if your grades are good enough.  Perhaps you could finish out your Sr. year this way?

  4. Well you can tell her that if your home schooled you wont get into trouble as much as you would in a public school.

  5. Hello.  I am the mom of a home schooled 14 year old daughter.  I wouldn't have it any other way!

You need to do your research to find out the legal requirements for home schooling in your country, state or province.

After that, research some of the various Home School Organizations for your State.  Check out the HSLD site. (Home School Legal Defence).

There are many good Homeschool sites on the internet where you can find out about other home schooled kids.

You might want to get a copy of the following book:

The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education (ISBN 0-9629591-7-0) by Grace Llewellyn

It is a wonderful resource for both parents and teenagers who are considering the homeschooling experience.  I would suggest that you read it first so that you are prepared to discuss it with your Mom.

If you can show her that you have done your "homework", and have well-prepared arguements, it will go a long way in convincing her that you are mature enough to make this type of decision.

When I first took my daughter out of school, I was somewhat scared at first.  I would never change it for a second!  Home schooling is the best thing that I could do for my daughter.

I have learned over the years, that school is NOT a good place for many, if not most children.  In one way or another, almost every family who I have spoken with has had problems with the school system, even expensive private schools.

Everyone truly IS different and school is a "cookie cutter" environment that is not always the best place for most kids to be.

Best wishes on your home school journey!

  6. You are better off in school.

  7. Research what you would need (books, tutors, online lessons, the cost of it all). Show your mum a plan, a timetable and a plan for your future. Also write her a letter explaining how you feel and that you are serious about wanting the best education for you. Also research if there are any alternative schools with different teaching methods near you, if your mum is not comfortable with having you home schooled she may agree to something different as a compromise.

  8. Very few kids like homeschooling; if they do, they are often socially inept. Most are forced to homeschool.

If your parents don't want you to homeschool, be grateful.

Western civilization has been built on our education system. It began with the peripatetics in Greece. Ideas are formed through a conversation between master and student.

If you want to homeschool out of laziness, don't.

If you want to homeschool because of some abuse at school, work it out with your parents. You need to have a relationship with them, and is sounds like you do or else you wouldn't want to homeschool.

Why would you want to miss high school?

  9. there's always the option of online classes. i currently go to K12 mnva (minnesota virtual academy) and Minnesota center of online learning (Mcool) and i LOVE it! it sounds like it would fix your problem of social distraction, and you can also participate in extracurriculars in a school close to you. the online courses that do this all are registered schools with a real curriculum. perhaps your mom would be more comfortable with this. explain to your mom that you want to do well in school, and go to college. this is not happening at your current school. after all, someone has to pay for that nursing home when she's old and senile. ;)

  11. lol I tried that same excuse to watch cartoons at home...it WONT work

  12. Some parents change their minds about homeschooling when they see the quality of the materials and how engaging home schooling subjects may be. Parents can get excited about the material their children will cover and learn. You may want to start ordering free homeschooling catalogs and talking about the courses you want to take. Many cities have homeschooling fairs that display there materials.

  13. My grandaughter had this same problem........

Was scared to talk to her mom.........

So she came to me ........

    I am her grandmother.......

I then went to her mom.....

The issue was solved as I am happy my grandaughter came to me

If you have a grandmother try this method

  14. tell you that you think that you are a L*****n and you are interested in a couple of girls at school. if she is not a bigot, that is good. i was ust kidding, it's not good to lie.

  15. why would she want to do this.  it would take a tremendous effort and much time.  You dont have long to go.  You can quit school when you turn 16.  get a ged on your own, and go on to college if you want to go.  I think it is too much to ask of your Mother.  Why not ask her to sit with you to consider another path to getting your education.

  16. tell her the difficulty and also why homeschool is better..... you save gas money

  17. i think first of all u should talk to ur counselor about homeschooling. she/he might agree with you as long as it works best for your study. then have your counselor talk to your mom. i'm sure your mom will be convinced by someone like ur counselor. ur mom doesnt want homeschooling for u because she might not know how it works and how helpful it is to u, so u must explain how it works to her. and cyberschool is good too

  18. tell her how you think you will benefit from it how you will enjoy yourself in home schooling it is true every one is different and maybe you like what other kids might not like... mums want the best for you so tell her how it will benefit you and maybe she will consider :) home schooling comes with the cost too it might be a little more expensive so yeah maybe that is one of the factors your mum is considering too :) tell her it is worth it and how much it is worth
