Ok..

So I started dying my hair when I was about 13. I've gone black, copper, brown, dark brown, plum and red. But over the last couple of years I've layed off the more varied colours and stuck to brown.

Last year from dying it myself a lot, the same brown again and again, it ended up very dark. Since then, I've only dyed it a couple times myself. I went to my usual hair dressers twice for bleach and toner sessions. After the first one, I was very unhappy with the results; my hair was really orange. Second time round, it's more like a copper colour. But more brown than red and definately lighter each time.

I want to go lighter still but wonder how long/what approach I should take to getting the golden brown colour I want? Also, I don't want to ruin my hair.. it's still soft when conditioned and the hairdresser says it's alright considering what it's had done but I'm scared of it falling out/splitting. (By the way my hair is quite long - a few inches below my shoulders)

Thanks

  1. Your hair must be loaded with colour if you continuously died it over the last while.  The only way to lift out this much colour-over-colour is to have it stripped out with bleach or to grow out the old colour and start again when your natural hair grows.

I had my hair bley/black and wanted to have it lightened.  I had to have a lot cut off cos they used a bleach mix to strip the black colour out a bit then the did bleach foil hilights with an ash blonde toner to kill the orange tones.

I wouldn't recommend it at all.

You could just get hilights and go lighter each time n get a bit off the length each time....

Whatever you do, lightening your hair will wreck it a bit anyway.  Go to a colour technician for real advice I think.
