Maybe but if your steamer is for residential use it may not last that long and you'll have to replace it. You could always rent a machine, that doesn't cost that much and it would save on the wear and tear on your machine.

Probably not.  If I am going to pay to clean my carpets I want a pro cleaner to do it.  Even the best Hoover can't compare to the power of the Steemers.
