The English centre-back claimed that earning high wages was not his career priority rather scooping up silverware was far more important.
While most of the media and general public scrutinize footballers for their extravagant lifestyle and high salaries, the players themselves are more focused on winning titles and trophies rather than filling their bank accounts.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173, one of the most lauded and highly rated defenders ever to play in the Premier League, has been lucky to enjoy a career at the very top and that too with Manchester United.
During his stay at the Theatre of Dreams, Ferdinand has managed to win the League 5 times, a UEFA Champions League and 81 caps for his country, and despite his age is still going strong for the Red Devils.
While he may be picking up a huge weekly wage for his extra-ordinary talents, the player claims that to him, winning will always take the priority as at the end of the day, it’s trophies that count not the money in the bank.
Speaking to reporters, the former Leeds United man said that he was eager to win as much as silverware as possible during his playing career and that money for him held no great esteem, as it was all about success on the field.
"People talk about money and all the stuff that goes on around football, but to me, it just comes back to winning. It doesn't matter how much money you have, at the end of your career, what you will be most proud of are your achievements.
Continuing, he added that since making the switch to Manchester, he had been lucky enough to win several gongs and that the real sorrow in his career was failure to secure a title or competition.
"If you have won things and continue to win things for this great club, that is something to talk about. I wouldn't sit down and talk about how much money I have. It would be more to do with what good times we had and some of the sorrow moments, when we
lost games we should have won,” Ferdinand was quoted as saying.
