I want my furnace to die so I can get a new one with my warranty

I bought a house with a warranty and the gas furnace is older than dust. I want it to die before winter so I can get a high efficiency furnace. Am I stuck waiting or can I speed it up some how?

  1. If your furnace is covered in your home warranty repairing will always be the option they choose and all furnaces can be repaired.Heat exchangers and compressors can be replaced which are the most expensive parts respectively. All other repairs cost substantially less. There only concern is to get you back up cooling or heating and will use the cheapest hands possible to do so.

Units may become old, unattractive, and inefficient but they can always be repaired.

When the repairs become extremely expensive and the cost of repairing out weighs the cost of replacement, that's when they may replace.Just don't get your hopes up because I have witnessed cooling & heating home warranties in action.Good luck.

  2. are you contemplating insurance/warranty fraud? Sorry lol, not much you can really do that won't be obvious to an experienced tech. If you did decide to do something to "speed things up" as you say, you might be putting yourself in harms way as you're doing it. And just so you know, most gas fired heaters have pretty durable heat exchangers that can last 20 years or more! Even if the heater had a mechanical failure, it can easily be fixed again. So unless you had a defective heatexchanger due to rust and or pitting, that old geezer will probably be around many years to come.

check out this site: alpinehomeair.com they sell quality Goodman a/c and heating equipment to the do-it-yourselfer. They have free delivery to your home and will even provide you with name of licensed contractors who will install it for you. And get this, they even give you with your purchase a CD that explains how to install it. So perhaps you and a mechanically inclined guy friend can put this heater in together.

    goodluck

  3. I would read your warranty very carefully before wishing for an expensive item like that.

Most warranties specifically exclude items that are 'old' such as the furnace.  Often, parts are unavailable and replacement is bound to happen soon.

If you damage the furnace purposely, you will end up paying for the new one when the old one might have been serviceable to another year.

  4. Nothing ethical.  Otterr wise, that is up to you

    Good Luck
