Question:

I want my roommate's dogs to be taken away from her?

My roommate has two dogs, but she can't properly take care of one. They stay in a crate for most of the day (if she gets home on time from work and doesn't go out that night, they'll get out of the pen for maybe 4 hours a day). One of them is a black lab and really needs to be exercised, but my roommate rarely ever takes them outside for more than a minute to poo and the crate that the lab is in is too small for her to even pick her head all the way up.

I find this treatment to be very cruel and I'm sick of standing by and watching it. I've offered to take the dogs out for walks, but my roommate doesn't "trust" me with them and has turned me down. I don't want her to have these dogs.

They also make a horrible mess of the house when they do get out of their crates because they're too hyper to stay in a small apartment.

the problem is, the dogs are well fed and look very healthy, so anyone that comes to see the dogs would think that they are well taken care of.

How can I get the dogs taken away from my roommate?

  1. Why can't you just convince her to give at least one of them away to someone that would have alot more time to play with it?

you didn't say what kind the second dogs is but a lab cooped up in a tiny cage in an apartment all day isn't being very nice to it.

  2. If there is a way for you to take the dogs out while your roommate is away that would help. It is wrong for the dogs to stay in the crate so long. It would make you feel better knowing that the dogs are walked.

Also ask your roommate if you can let them out when she is not there so they can move around some and not make such a mess when they are let out.

  3. call animal control

  4. First try and tell her that you think she is neglecting her dogs. If she doesn't listen then tell her you think someone told animal control about her and get her scared. If she doesn't care, call her parents maybe and tell them her dogs would be better off with them. If none of that works,

Take her dogs to the humane society and tell them exactly what was going on.

Then when she comes home tell her that someone else called animal control on her and they took the dogs away. Or something she will believe and not think you took them.

    lol.

Another thing you could try is YOU could take them out and play with them. But then she will become dependent on you and think you will do it. So, it would only take up your time and you would be doing her a favor. And she probably wouldn't pay you back.

    GOOD LUCK

  5. seceretly video the abuse/neglect and when you call Animal control or a help/abuse line you have proof of the negelect, to get a larger response you may want to send a copy(never let the origional go) to a well televised animal show that has the pull to get something done like cesar milian?

    hope this helps

  6. erm.....set up a video camera or somefin, and take it to animal control :)

  7. I don't know that you can get them taken away from her. As you've said they look healthy and don't appear neglected.   The lab being in a crate that's too small is a real problem though, that is neglect.  Can you even suggest to her that the dog needs a larger crate?  People sell used crates on craigslist or the newspaper all the time, a large or x-large used crate can be half the price of a new one.  I wish you good luck, its hard to see that dogs are being neglected, and even your offer to help is not met with agreement.

  8. Start helping these dogs by contacting a humane organization and ask someone to come out and visit with the dogs and your room mate. While they are visiting they can educate your friend about the importance of exercise and proper socialization for dogs.

  9. Ask her if she feels that she is really doing a service for these dogs? That being in crates all day everyday is pretty much like being at the shelter anyway. Doesn't she have family that will keep them for her? I don't think its far to the dogs and obviously she is too self absorbed to take care of them. I would call the humane society after all it is your place too.
