Okay, well, I'm not sure how old she is, from her teeth and other pics of teeth, i would say she is around 6-9. She is an Arabian mix. She was pretty much my horse, my uncle never took care of her, so when I went over there, I always had carrots and brushed her so she started shining. Well, we are moving in a few months, and I'm going to talk with the new owner, and I'm going to have her. Here is the thing, I think she is a bit sway-backed. This is what her back kinda looks like:

that pic is just a little worse than what she really has. im losing weight, so when i lose all this weight, ill be around 120 or so, if we did buy her, would me riding her hurt her back?

i would never want to put an animal in pain

  1. From your pic she doesnt look bad to me.  Im not sure what your weight is, but please dont feel you have to starve yourself in order not to hurt her!  It sounds like you love her very much and i dont believe you would be hurting her by riding her.  Good luck

  2. If the horse isn't a little better than that is should be OK, it just makes me wonder if she is older than you think or possibly broke to young?

Anyway her ride may be but not definitely be less comfortable due to the sway and you will most likely have to use a built up pads and other pads to help the tack fit better.

Be sure that your saddle fits and the horse is comfortable. That may as I stated before take special pads.

I had to use a lollipop pad for an older mare just being used for walk trot. It helps keep the saddle level and from sliding back among other things. But the horse itself was more comfortable to ride and more comfortable in general.

Good Luck and I hope you can have her, I'm sure you will do right by her

  3. Your horse will be fine, and since no one is spending any time with her, she'll probably love the attention.

I learned how to bare back ride on an old mare with a back swayed like the one in the pic. It was so fun!!!

    best of luck to you!

  4. A horse with a swayed back is not usually in pain when a person rides her. Its usually just a loss of muscle that causes this (which is why a lot of older horses have this condition). I had a 23 year old Quarter horse as my first horse with a swayed back MUCH worst that your horse's. She rode great and even competed with her (she won blue ribbons barrel racing all the time). Don't worry about the back, she should be fine.
