  1. i'm 14, and i've been a vegetarian(now a vegan) and i never took a supplement.

i would suggest buying a cookbook.

oh and hummus and edamame saved my life!

  2. First of all it is important to decide what type of vegetarian you want to become.  You can easily do that by deciding if you still want to eat eggs or dairy products.  Next talk to your mom or dad or another adult about keeping your diet healthy and balanced.  Morning Star and Boca are companies that make very good substitute meat products.  But you also need to get other nutrients. For a very good article about vegetarianism go to:  http://kidshealth.org/parent/nutrition_f...

Tell your doctor about your choice to become vegetarian.  He or she may give you vitamins to take or take a sample of your blood and do tests to make sure that you are getting the proper nutrients you need.   And about advice on what you can and can't eat, each vegetarian's diet differs, so there is no what you "can" and "can't" eat.  Look out for gelatin in gummy candies and puddings.  It is also in jello and marshmallows.  Gelatin is an animal product and if you chose not to eat it you should be aware that it is in many candiess puddings and other gummy food items.  Also many soups, noodles, and rices have chicken broth so read labels on those too.

  3. Here is a small list of foods that vegetarians can eat.

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentil, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12.

All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended.

It may help you if you see proof that vegan people have the same potential as anyone else.

If you need meat or dairy during any stage of your life or to live any certain lifestyle, why does the American Dietetic Association say otherwise?

  6. I am 14 right now but I was a vegetarian for 3 years. I know it is kind of hard to start but you will get used to it. Well when I was a vegetarian I ate absolutely no meat. I didn't even eat fish. So are you planning on eating fish because some vegetarians do even though I didn't. I don't know why because I still count that as meat. But if you are then that is a way to get protein. If not what I did is I ate vegetarian meat. It tastes exactly the same but it is not real meat. You should also eat fruit and vegetables to stay healthy. And take certain vitamins as well. You should also eat like protein bars and power bars like I did because thats what I did to get protein. And drink some vitamin water and protein water drinks. I also ate like cereal and bread and stuff. But something you should be careful about is getting too skinny. When I became a vegetarian I lost a lot of wait and I was so skinny. I mean I wasn't like so skinny that it was unhealthy but I was underweight and that may happen to you. Anyway just eat things that will keep you healthy and you can still pretty much eat meat if you buy vegetarian meat. There are a lot of other foods that have protein in them. So I hope this helps and good luck!
