Pen friends or pen pals was called are things of the past.  How about email, easier on the hand than writing.  No envelopes to l**k and no postage needed.  But if you're into writing, I should say go for it!  More power to you!  I had several pen pals way before email was born, it was fun!  I had chances of visiting and meeting a few.  Good luck!
