Things I have wanted to do for years. I need to raise money, and thought it would be a great idea for people to sponsor me to do something like this. But I dont know how to go about getting it sorted. are there companies out there who organise this sort of thing?

  1. I organised one in Bristol where we abseiled just round from the suspension bridge, about 200ft.

I called round to charities, ask to speak to head of fund raising in your area and see if they would be interested in co-organising an event.

You also need to find a local climbing club/association who are up for overseeing and controlling the event.

If the club has abseiled the bridge before they should do a free set up and just charge for the people's time. If the site has not been abseiled assessed by the club they will probably charge you to assess the site for health and safety.

The people who own the site- be it the local authority or a business etc also need to be in agreement in principle and will finally make a decision based on the recommendations of the climbing assessment.

The charity will help distribute leaflets etc to raise awareness and anything you can do with friends and family will also help.

If all this sounds too much and you just want to abseil off anything then just speak to a local climbing club but if you can do it for charity all the better we raised just over £10,000
