I really want to be an Oncologist. Even though i'm only 15, I know i'm ment for this. I want to help people. I absolutely know that's my purpose in life. Many people in my family have died from cancer. My own mother faced off with Breast Cancer. She won and If she didn't....I don't know where I would be. She encourages me so much. I Love her and If cancer toke her away I would be lost. I know I have to get a Bachelor degree in PreMedicine But what next? I'm planning to go to Penn State (the Main College) For My Premedicine Degree. And then move on to The University Of PA. I'm a pretty good student, mostly As. And I am On the Swim Team....So I'm a pretty "well rounded student". But what do i do after I get My Bachelor for Premedicine? I Don't really have a lot of information. I Know what a Oncologist does (My mother's a nurse). But I need more information about College credits and such. any good links. Thanks. btw don't think as me as a naive person. I Know what I want to do. And theres nothing thats going to stop me

  1. hope you understand youll have no life through med school. Unless your REALLY smart. You want to help People thats great but do you understand your the one most of the time that has to tell the patient he or she has cancer.

  2. For now, Make sure you do well in high school...then before you get into med school, you must have some form of previous certification from a college (usually they get a degree in "Pre-Med")...Then you must do really well on your MCAT..and try and get into a good Medical School (there is HUGE competition to get into most schools..)...

    Here;s some links for you:

(you're counselor can also help you out a lot)

You seem like you're not doing this for money, status, or recognition, becoming a doctor is a 24/7 commitment...if you think you can handle it, then t try and look further into it..Good Luck!

  3. When you get to college (very good choices you're looking at), you'll want to meet with your academic advisor early to be sure you follow the right curriculum for pre-med. Before get your undergraduate degree, you'll decide on which medical schools to apply to, and you have to take the MCATs (like SATs for medical aptitude). If you get into med school, then it's probably a good 8 years of study: 4 for the med degree and 4 more for speciality in Oncology.

Good luck. You sound motivated and determined, and it sounds like you really want to help people. Having been through cancer treatment the past 8+ months, I have the highest regard for the docs and nurses who research and treat cancer patients. They are the best !

  4. Your college counselor will head you in the right direction. You could also get some information from your high school counselor so you can take some courses dealing with the sciences and math you would need.
