the xml file is probably an rss feed, not an xml site map.

Use a sitemap generator such as:

http://www.sitemapdoc.com/

or

http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

Generate your sitemap then follow the instructioons and upload it to your webhost.

The address should be:

http://yourwebsiteaddress/sitemap.xml
