I have had dogs in the past, all from shelters, but now I want to adopt a disabled dog (blind, deaf, limb loss, etc.) Is there a rescue in MA that has one of these? Im looking for preferably a larger breed, particularly a chow or chow mix.

Godbless.

  1. First of all you are a very good person. It is very rare that people want to adopt a disabled animal.

  2. You are such an amazing person for wanting to adopt a disabled dog. I took the liberty of searching for some special needs dogs, starting with the ones closest to Massachussets. If you tell me your town or zip code, I could find ones even closer to you.

This is more about Bo's disease: It is basically something that causes a dog to go blind.

  3. Here is a site that lists deaf dogs available for adoption.

I'm familiar with the deaf dog group.  I also found this rescue that works with adoption of disabled dogs online.

  4. If you like big how about a Deaf great dane? Unfortunately there are breeders out there that are not well educated and breeding white and white merle/harlequin dogs. They are very genetically prone to be deaf. Most of the deaf puppies end up with Dane rescue, so currently there are lots out there.

Or go to www.petfinder.com on the left there is a search bar, where you can find any breed in your area, even special needs ones!
