My brother and his wife will not cope financially once the baby arrives. Me and my husband been longing to have a baby and we dont mind if it will be my brother's baby. Me and my husband are both british citizens here in UK, will it be difficult? We dont know whom to ask and how we are going to process the adoption papers? Pls gave us advise on how to adopt a baby ....my brother's baby that will be born sometime in June this year. My brother and his wife are willing to do it whatever it takes as long as they know who will look after their baby. And I did promise them that I will love the baby because the baby is not only my nephew or niece but I will treat the baby as my own because its my brothers baby. Pls help us how to do it right?

  1. Seek your own legal advice as we are unable to start the proceedings for you. Best of luck. :)

  2. Keeping the baby in the family is wonderful and I commend you for doing this.

Also, taking the child on condition that you are allowed to adopt is a very good idea, for many reasons.

You have 2 governments to work with: UK and Philippines.

First, you have to get permission from HMG-Immigration to bring in an adopted baby as a UK subject. The advice that you get an international adoption agency that is licensed in both the UK and Philippines is absolutely correct. They will help you through this process.

Then you will apply through the Philippine court system to have your brother's and wife's rights terminated and your adoption approved. The Philippine government may waive many requirements in the following cases:

        * A former Filipino citizen who seeks to adopt a relative within the fourth degree of consanguinity, as defined under Philippine law; or

        * A person who seeks to adopt the legitimate son/daughter of his/her Filipino spouse; or

        * A person who is married to a Filipino and who seeks to adopt jointly with his/her spouse a relative within the fourth degree of consanguinity, as defined under Philippine law.

So you are actually in a very good position to adopt your nephew/niece. Contact the Inter-Country Adoption Board [contact information below] for a list of agencies licensed by the Philippines to assist you.

This will take a long time and you will feel frustrated at times, but keep at it and you should get this done eventually.

  3. You ask how to do it "right"

Wouldn't right be helping your brother provide for his family?Their finacial problems are something which could be a temporary problem. Loss of one's family is lifelong, and causes great suffering. If you care about the baby, PLEASE do not remove him from his mother. Separation is h**l.

  4. You need to contact an International Adoption lawyer (barrister?) in the UK. You need to ask what laws apple to iniating an "Identified Adoption". Explain that this is between family members in the Phillipines.

And may I commend you on keeping this baby in the family.

Good luck and I hope this helps!
