  1. A Directory submitter would get you banned. If you generate too many links at once, Google will ban your site.

    Your best bet (from an SEO SEM) is to add comments to famous blogs that discuss the same topics that you are selling. Our clients are told to write informative comments that support the host blogger's views.

    We find that, depending on the product/blog's popularity, a client can receive up to 10 inbound links PER COMMENT.

    This also increases your blog's Page Rank so that you rank higher in the search engine.  

    Yes - there are several blog submitters on the net. You won't get a good one for free. A good submitter that won't end up getting you banned will cost about $300-$1000.

    You can get an SEM firm to submit to about 200 Social Networking sites for about $50. This is great advertising. Of course - you can always do it by hand. Just type 'social networking' into your browser and start setting up accounts.

    Another way to get free advertising is to write articles and submit them to free content/free article sites. This gets your business name right in other websites, where people visit.

    I'm assuming that you are a traditional "bricks and mortar" type business so my first advice to you is that you advertise your location on Google Maps (go to google then click on maps.) From there, click on "Put your business on Google Maps". That's where you'll enter your location, business description, phone numbers, etc.

    If your business has a web site, you need to investigate search engine optimization. This site has some useful information although it's not that comprehensive yet. It's a good starting point. http://www.simple-internet-strategies.co... .

    If you don't have a web site, there are economical ways to do it that will bring business to your doorstep. The site I mentioned can help you with that as well.

    I keep seeing this question, so I'm just pasting the same answer in for everyone, which is below.

    There is a long and short to that question. The long will take a good amount of research on your part. The short won't be as effective, but will help for a start.

    1. Pick about three key phrases per page to optimize for. Write content for the page. At least a couple hundred words. make sure that your key phrases account for 10% of the content on the page. Google has tools to help you with this, check out their webmaster tools, they are helpful.

    2. Submit your site to all the engines and directories you can find. You shouldn't have to pay for this. Most engines have a page where you can submit your site for free. The Directories give you good incoming links. Other good links come from the chambor of commerce, BBB, local business directories... always fill out forms for free accounts like the ones with Verizon.com or real pages.com. Incoming links play a big part in helping your site move up, but make sure that they aren't just spam or you will get banned. You can also trade links with similar sites. Just send an e-mail and ask if the site would be interested, they likely will be.

    3. Fill out your meta tags. This is an old school solution, but it still needs to be done. Part of your meta tags determine what searchers will see when they enter your term into a search engine. That's a great opportunity to start selling, so don't pass it up!

    Outside of SEO, you can market your site with PPC or shopping engines.  You should check out Google Base. It's a free place to advertise. You can optimize your listings there to come up higher. Repeat keywords, but not in a way that makes them unnatural. Check out the listings of those who come up high for more popular keywords, and try to make your listings similar. Submit all of your products there once per day, it will make a difference. Once you are doing well in Google Base, you may want to try the other shopping sites that cost money like shopping.com, shopzilla, nextag, yahoo shopping or maybe an affiliate program such as Avantlink.

    Of course there is a lot more you can do, but start here and you will see a difference. Don't join a link farm or do anything spammy. It will help for awhile, but then you will find your site banned from the engines and you'll be right back here again instead of still gaining speed. Good luck!
