5 months ago I was offered a job with another company, however after accepting it my current company offered me a better package. I told the other company that I would not be joining them. However I realised quite soon after I had made a big mistake. There is now another vacancy with the company I declined and I would like to apply do you think they would give me a chance, as I know I fit their criteria for this position or do you think its a waste of time/

  1. A friend of mine did the same.  They gave him a second chance after (obviously thought he was worth it) but he declined the second time too and didn't dare go didn'tagain after that!

You obviously made a good impression the first time and as long as you treated them well when you declined they probably wont mind.

I offered a guy a job and, after a four week notice period, he contacted the agency on the day he was due to start for me and told them his previous company had bought him back with a payrise.  This was really frustrating as i could have been recruiting for the four weeks i had been waiting for him to turn up.  Most companies I have dealt with tend to counter-offer at the time of receiving the resignation not when you are just about to leave.  If he had told me immediately i would have given him a second chance at a later date but as he acted the way he did I was glad i didnt have him working for me as he doesnt have the principles i would valoue in an employee.

Depending on the way you acted the first time, i would say they are really likely to give you an interview - hope you get it and enjoy the new job!

  2. No - go for it, the most they can say is get lost and if you don't try you'll always wish you did!  Anyway, with Equal Opps and all that, if you apply, fit the person specification and other information required, then they cant decline you an interview at least!

    dont worry - just apply!

  3. You can try and try to tell them that you had some personal problems that is why you decline their offer. Or you can be honest with them telling the truth.

  4. I guess that there's nothing to stop you applying, you've got nothing to lose.  But I wouldn't get your hopes up.  You may have the reputation of a time-waster, just someone looking to get another job offer to boost their current salary in the job that they're in.  You never know, you might be lucky and your CV may go to a whole new bunch of people....

  5. Surely it would be a bigger waste of time not to apply for it, just have a cheesy grovel speech ready.

    Good luck
