because our city wants to build a plant but many people are against it. but reality check we have low power now in the city and province. it cannot anymore support. also we have major black outs always.

  1. coal is a temporary solution. how long coal will last ? where it is coming from ? how long have they been with ?

50 years ago, coal was ok, but not now. because the production is disapearing. We have a good example here in europe. north of France and Saare in Germany. they were the biggest producer of coal for the last century and today, NADA-NIET- nothing ! we have to find another solution to our energy. no more wood, coal, oil for the futur ! what else

the sun is left, and the wind... free and efficient !

  2. Coal fired plants are VERY bad for the environment because it dumps Carbon Monoxide into the atmosphere.

  3. I think at its risky to use all coal power in any city. All cites are trying to go green and they are converting their power plant in green so why are you trying to go black.

I can guess what you thing when black out happens. But its reality and stats showing that to go green is the best way to save environment.

You can watch these videos if it helps you to understand about green,

  4. The cool plants have come a long way . The scrubbers remove almost all dust. We need to save the oil for transportation.

  5. what do u mean is it good?financialy or eco friendly wise?

well coal powered powers plants are cheap and there is plenty of coal in the world to last humans at least 200-300 years but of course other more green options such as wind power and sun power are better for the environment.

jesus where do u live LOL ? and why are people againsn't it.

  6. If you need added capicity it has to be coal or something of that nature. sorry to all the wind and solar folks.  You have to increase your base to the grid.  Solar and wind are not predictable enough.  If the wind does not blow for 3 days in July you are shafted.  A wind unit will be 6 Mw, roughly 2000 to 5000 homes.  I would guess they would be putting in a 100 MW facility or so.  Sorry but the choice is either black outs, a major raise in price, or coal.

Bye the way the way plants do not run full boar at night, they cut back because there is not as much a consumer at night.  The reason they stay on is because once a boiler is running it is best to keep running and downtimes are weeks, not hours.

  7. They have smoke stack scrubbers that spay a fine mist of water to clean the smoke that comes out of them and that water is then cleaned and reused to spray again

    .. . ..

The coal that is used has to be cleaned first by going to a coke plant not the bottle of pop coke plan a plant that removes the impurities sulfur and other from the coal before it is used

    .. . ..

The coal that is avaliable will out last the curd oil 3 to one was the last I call guess made and maybe even more coal is out there to be found yet

    .. .. ..

And in the process of moving coal from point A to point B there is no danger of polluting the earth as with oil spills killing the beaches and all the wild life that lives near or on the same beach

    .. ... ..

Coal is still smoky but the left over is still usable by processing plants that reuse the scrubbed smoke stack nasty stuff to make other usable fuels

    .. . .

  8. yes,Coal has high percentage carbon, thou can not completely.

  9. find out how much generating capacity your power plants produce in megawatts.......then find out how much capacity your city needs.........to provide that capacity your city needs .....say in solar or wind generated will need to impact a certain amount of area (square miles or square kilometers).....at any power generating station you will have an impacted area....what and how much space the city is willing to provide for this are good questions........

if a coal power plant is built, where will it be? upwind or downwind with the prevailing winds in your area........the excess heat from the power generating cycle, (river water through the steam condensor tubing?) will have to be let out somewhere, what happens when the power plant shutsdown? the river water will turn cold and maybe the river will have some fishkills........ excess heat maybe let out for steam for additional industries next to the power plant (if you build it more industries will come)..what will they do with the leftover ash(that is high in trace toxic metals) you just don't want to dump it on the outskirts of town....

probably the best thing you can push for is the power plant to have the best sulfer and CO2 scrubber systems available.....if you pose all these questions you may have a better bargaining position to get all the latest pollution equipment for the plant.......just remember the big coal plants that do not have the best pollution control equipment will usaully run full bore at night time(can't see the billowing clouds then can you?)

  10. To increase the additional energy required, suggest peaking generators for standby use when and as needed. to augment the additional energy load needed to sustain & maintain the power grid

    Phil Mole'

  11. financially yes its good, because coal is a cheaper energy producer, but environmentally its not, it releases CO2 in the air and co2 emissions are what are harming the ozone layer

  12. isn't it generally the central government that is responsable for building power plants? Coal power plants cause the most airborne pollution, but they are the cheapest to build.

  13. If your town has limited electric power available, I would say its good.
