I've been watching the animated version and also think I should audition for the elephant and panther. Should I wear an animal costume?

  1. Apparently, just be yourself.

  2. If you are auditioning for the stage version, watching the animated movie is not the best way to prepare.  There is no monkey in the musical.  Watch the version with Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner as it is LOTS closer to what you'd be performing if you make it into the show.

As for what to prepare, you need to look at the audition notice.  Generally 16 bars of a song from a braodway musical.  The song should be in your vocal range (and that of the charachter which you are auditioning for).  It shoud be in the same style of the show you are auditioning for (ie start with selections from other Rodgers and Hammerstein shows) and the song should exhibit similar characteristics of the character you hope to play.
