I have always dreamed about going to Europe. My roommate and I are wanting to go in the summer of 09'. And want to stay for at least 3 months, it would be amazing to find a place to live for a few years.

I want to begin planning everything, costs, and route and all. Any help from anyone that has done the same thing would be great!

  1. Poland is a nice country, But I would start at France and move in a up down way..

  2. Best thing to do is decide on some major stops, now, and build an itinerary upon that.

Go get a good guide book for all of Europe, or Western Europe, if that's where you want to concentrate.  I think Let's Go Europe is still in print out there.  Ignore the prices quoted in the book, but use it to help decide on where you want to go, and what you want to do once there.  No photos, just good information.  A good guide for the sort of trip you describe,

Getting work may not be as easy as all that, but if you can find someplace that will hire you on under the table, you might have something there.  It should be a blast!

  3. well i haven't stayed for years in some cities , only for days but i can suggest you some nice countries : norway(surely visit it!) , paris , greece , austria , switzerland and italy

  4. Amsterdam- Berlin- Munich-Salzburg- Vienna-Bratislava-Krakow-Warsaw- Gdansk- Vilnius

Try to also get in Switzerland

  5. My bf and I did this a few years ago. After a few weeks we bought a pushbike each as we found ourselves walking 2-3 ks off the track to hostels etc and then back. Biking we could average 100-150ks a day and we could take the bikes on trains for longer trips. In Holland see windmills, 30km d**e, Alkmaar cheese markets. Visit Belgium (Brugge) canals, Luxembourg. France we went to Orleon, Paris (slept under the Eiffel Tower a couple of nights with dozens of other back-packers) cycled down the Loire and visited numerous castles (Chateaus like Chenenceaux, Amboise etc. So much to see - pick it up as you go along. We cycled in Germany (don't miss Hameln, Bremen, Munich (Oktoberfest), Berlin as well as Switzerland and Austria. we wintered in England and travelled again in Europe the next summer by motorbike where we went to Scandinavia (saw midnight sun) and down to Greece and Italy.

    have fun!

Budget for flights and $100 per day (food, hostel type accom, transport as necessary, entry to things. Don't skimp on paying to do things).
