  1. You have to be a medical doctor before you can do any anesthesiology training. So, finish high school, finish college, and when you're about 3/4 of the way through medical school, THAT'S the time to choose a specialty.

If you want a career as a physician, take a lot of science in high school, and choose whatever college interests you. You can major in anything at all, but you do have to take certain science classes to be eligible for medical school. Your college academic advisor can help you with that.

In about 8 years, if you're still interested in anesthesiology, that's the time to pick a program.

For now, practice good study habits, learn how to learn a lot of information quickly, and don't forget to have fun with life. (College should be half studying and half fun. If you can get all A's, or close to it, with that mix, then you'll do well in med school)

  2. You have to go to college and after graduation, you have to be accepted to med school and study that specialty. Med school is 4 years. After med school, you have to do residency at a hospital or doctor's office, its sort of like an apprenticeship for doctors. Residency usually lasts 3 years.

Just make good grades in high school and get great grades in college. When you graduate high school and go to college, major in biology or chemistry, something science related so it will prepare you for the tough classes at med school.

  3. You could start by taking biology and chemistry at school as these, (especially chemistry) are going to be important to u in becoming an anaestheologist. In the UK you would then do a medical degree and then anaestheology would be a specialist field that you would study further later. The first step, is definately take chemistry class, demonstate an interest in it asap. Maybe you could contact colleges or even grad schools and actually ask them this question. You won't look stupid, because it isn't obvious and it may impress them that you know what you want to do and are preparing early!
