‘I want to be a Cardinal for a long time,’ says Arizona’s quarterback, Kevin Kolb – NFL News Update
Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback, Kevin Kolb, whose National Football League (NFL) season was severely affected by different injuries, has said that he wants to stay with his present franchise for ‘a long time’.
While giving an interview on Monday, February 13, 2012, Kolb informed that he had recovered from concussion and would now be focusing more on the coming season.
He said of his health:
"I feel good. I'd say it took three to four weeks after the season was over to not have any symptoms. Once my mind cleared, I got back to working out."
Kolb could only play nine games of the regular season while the rest were started by John Skelton.
Both the quarterbacks were not as impressive as they should be because of their inability to control throwing interceptions.
Cardinals went off to a pathetic start in the season and lost six straight games after winning the season opener against Carolina Panthers.
However, the team surged back quite strongly and registered seven victories in its last nine games to end the season with a total of eight victories and defeats respectively.
If the quarterbacks had performed well, the Cards could have qualified for the playoffs.
After the season, it was speculated that Arizona might hire a new quarterback for the next season, but that development seemed unlikely as the team already had three quarterbacks and the fresh acquisition, Kolb, had only spent a year with the franchise.
But there is a twist in the tale.
After the news of Indianapolis Colts and veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning, parting ways came on the scene, many opportunists thought of acquiring Manning.
According to different unconfirmed reports, Arizona is also willing to make a good offer to Manning.
However, Kolb is not bothered by such speculations. He thinks that the franchise wants to keep him as the starter, and hopes to play well in the next season.
He said of the situation:
“I know how the NFL works, anything is possible. I just try to keep my mind clear and do what I can on my end. I plan on having a great year and being a Cardinal for a long time.”
Kolb will get a bonus of $7 million from Arizona in March. If Cardinals hire Manning and release Kolb, the latter would not get the bonus.
However, Kolb has said that he has not received any indication from the management about releasing him and the player is also expecting to get the bonus.
