I will be a junior in high school and I am wondering what classes I should take and what colleges I should apply to. Are there any AP classes that will help me? I would like to hear from people with the same interests or other civil engineers.

  1. take a lot of math and science courses, AP calc or physics may help you but most AP classes are now only considered introductions to the course and you will have to take them again in college but they willl prepare you and make you look better to colleges.

for colleges: go to a university with a good engineering department and is in an area that will be beneficial to the type of civil work you want to do

  2. it really doesn't matter what courses you take in high school

just be good at math, algebra, geometry and physics

and then try to get into a decent school such as upenn or penn state and not a college

there will be tons of job opportunities waiting for you

wise decision, if you are made for it.

  3. im doing diploma in civil engineering now it is mostly maths, english science such as physics a little bit of chemistry and you also must have good knowledge in drawing as well

  4. You can definitely be fine if you just start from college but here are some things that will jump start your engineering and help you open more doors faster.

Take the Calc Ap and the physics Ap is possible. Even if you don't pass the test the introduction to the knowledge will help you out a lot.

If you have time try to learn some cad. For you Autocad will be the best. The reason this is good is because you can get internships easily if you know how to draft and read drawings.

As for "good" schools it really depends. MIT, UCLA, Cal Tech are the best but difficult to enter. But also realize that theres a lot of othe factors you need to consider. I turned down a better engineering school because the one I'm at allows me to go home more often. And even though it's not as highly ranked I'm happy because I would have gone crazy at the farther school.

Good luck with engineering. Learn your math!

  5. Try going to UC Irvine.
