Also.. Do you have to be Extremely smart to become a Psychologist,

What personality traits do you need to have? How hard is it to get into College for it? How many points in your leaving cert do you need?

  1. Your subject choices don't really matter

Most colleges will just want the points

The basic requirement for most colleges is for you to have two languages, Irish and a foreign one (which would be french in your case)

Although there is some colleges like Trinity that will only ask for one, they count Irish as a foreign language

The points last time I checked were fairly stiff (up in the high 500's) so I would recommend you take subjects that you enjoy and will get the best grades in

I don't know the exact points so you could try looking up different colleges that you might want to go to on the net and looking at what psychology courses they offer and seeing what requirements and points they would be asking for

  2. I assume you are taking your GCSEs or equivalent for the next couple of years. If you are then it doesn't matter too much with GCSE course you take but you need a C or above in maths to get into a good uni to study psychology. Then when you get to A Levels you can take psychology and 2 or 3 more subjects. Psychology at A Level is not necessary if you want to do psychology at uni but if you don't take psychology at A Level you will need a science subject to get into a degree course.

    This is what I did

GCSEs-  maths, English. English lit, 3 sciences, ICT, RE, history, child development, Art and food tec.

Then at AS and A Level I am studying Health and Social Care (2 A levels) and psychology.

To get onto an A Level course you need 5 A-C grades at GCSE.

After A Levels you can do a three year degree in psychology, and depending on the uni it can be linked with other subjects such as criminology and counselling. Some uni’s want AAA or AAB while others will want BBC etc. It’s about finding the right course for you.

There are many areas of psychology to go into, educational, sport, forensic, counselling health etc and depending in which area you go into depends on how many more years training it takes after uni, (but after the 3 year degree you are a recognised physiologist but make sure the uni course you take is recognised by the British psychology society) with forensic psychology after the 3 year degree you do 1 year training and two years being observed to become a forensic psychologist.

Hope this helps; this website can help you a lot

(Tells you what GCSES and A Levels can help you)

    Good Luck xxxxx :-)

(Also with your personality an interest in the subject and a passion about it is really important and you seem to have that so that is great, also hard working, determined, caring and good at listening are important qualities)

EDIT: I think it depends on your school, when I did my GCSEs a couple of years ago science was not split into 3 different subjects it was one lesson and at the end of the two years you came out with two GCSEs in science so we couldn't pick, at my school everyone had to do the 3 sciences, English, English lit, RE, maths and ICT then you got to pick 3 or 4 other subjects of your own choice, I think it is really important that you talk to your teachers about this and find out about it, I only got a C in science and that seems to be ok at the moment.

  3. Biology is strongly advised, probably all three sciences as psychology requires a sound mathematical and scientific knowledge. I heard Geography MIGHT be required and Art might be desirable.

Personality traits: You need to be patient, understanding, open-minded. They are not essential but very desireable! In college, you need to study Psychology!

You don't need to be "extremely smart" but intelligence would help as psychology is rumoured to be a difficult career.

  4. Definitely biology chemistry and physics!!!! an adequate grasp of scientific knowledge and procedure is a must when studying psychology!!!

you dont need to be extremely smart just a hard worker. not sure about college but even if you dont get the results you want you can study with the open university. look it up on line and it will tell you the courses you need to take.

  5. I think Physics, History, and maybe Art may be helpful. Physics is the science of matter and energy and their interactions, that will help very much help you. History (you should check out evolution) can tell you how humans have progressed through time. Art... well that supports creativity, which may help with your logic with patients. I want to be a psychologist too so I'm studying towards that! I'm pretty sure psychologists are extremely smart, but more than that you need to be a people-person, be calm and caring, and be logical.

I read this website (http://psychology.about.com/od/psycholog... and it really helped me! You should check it out and good luck :)

  6. I would advise;

    Physics

    & History.

    And also your questions

Personality has to be a very calm one without a bad temperament..

Its not too hard to get into college for it if you have the right grades.

I'm not sure how many points you need on your leaving certificate

You will study full on psychology.

    Something else you should know:

    How the human brain works

    Emotions

    Fear

When someone is hiding something deep and it is very hard to spot.

There are more of these things that you need to help

You should think about this topic.
