  1. Biology will most likely be your most inportant class, both HS and college. It takes a great deal of empathy to be one. I would also suggest a grammar course, to be able to speak to people. Prob have to take human anatomy as well because of some of the similarities. Good Luck. Hope I helped.

  2. High School: take as many science related course your school has to offer: biology, physics, chemistry, physiology, etc.

College (undergrad): major in zoology, pre-veterinary medicine or pre-med, and receive your Bachelor of Science degree (4 year program)

After graduation: apply to vet schools and if accepted, attend for an additional 4 years.

  3. Don't worry about high school classes, the admissions committee will never look at that, although you might want to take some AP classes that can lighten your load in college such as statistics and psychology which are basic, annoying prerequisite classes you'll have to fill anywhere u go for college. It also doesn't matter where you go for college as long as your grades and GRE scores are good. Just don't go to a community college. While in college, major in whatever you want as long as you take the pre-vet requirements: gen bio, gen chem, organic chem, physics, biochem, and microbio and the labs that go with all those classes. Other than that, take some extra upper division sciences class to show that you can do well with intense science classes and to prepare yourself for veterinary school.

  4. The veterinary path is VERY competitive, and you need to make yourself stand out, both academically and in other areas.

Math and science are going to be your most important subjects, but do your best in all of your courses-as I said, it is very competitive and veterinary colleges can pick and choose and they will, of course, choose the best students.

Try to choose a college with a pre-vet program.  This will best prepare you for grad school.  Research the veterinary schools now-there are relatively few of them and you have a better chance of getting in if you attend a college that has admitting priveleges at that school.

After having completing your pre-vet program, you will apply to veterinary school.  I suggest applying to all of them, with the hopes of getting into one-AGAIN, it is very competitive.  In order to make yourself stand out, have good grades and just as importantly, have a lot of experience with animals.  STart documenting your experiences now-with your own family pets, volunteering at your local animal shelter, shadowing your veterinarian, participating in community programs related to animals.

Researching the vet schools, and the colleges that admit to them, will give you a better idea of what you need to do as you learn their requirements.

I wish you the best!  My daughter is an aspiring veterinarian as well.
