  1. I agree with most people above.  Experience is key.  Money is great.  Become a good server first and then go from there.  I was asked to be bartender after 4 months at my current place of employment.  I have been in the service industry for some time though.  Gain a good knowledge of beer and wines/spirits.  Also, be up to date on sports and be a good bullsh*tter.  If you master that, you are on your way!!  Good Luck!

  2. Wow your parents must be really proud

  3. you could go to bartending school

but i have friends that are bartenders and all they did was work at a restaurant for a while and when they turned 18 they became a server and then they asked to become a bartender... i'm sure it would look fine if they got more time and then went to an actual bar

as for what the expect... expect working with a lot of drunk people and working nights haha... you didn't figure that one out yet did ya?

edit: **** maxie m, i see no reason why your parents shouldn't be proud if your a bartender. O_o some people r dumbbbbb

  4. bartending is great if you decide you really want to do this i recomend you go take bar management classes! also tryt o work some fun events partys weddings football games ect. while you are in school to give you actual experience...when you are finished i recomend you go for a busy 5 star hotel bar great pay! i work for marriott downtown new orleans i get paid 9$ an hour plus tons of tips my avg check is 800$ a week and about 400$ a week cash! plus its so much fun!!! but u need to be able to joke around and make people laugh! its more that it seems than just makin drinks...but good luck!!!

  5. get a job at a restaurant that has a bar as a bar back or even waiter (Chilli's, Fridays etc). Bar backs don't require previous experience. Then become friends with the bar tenders and manager. If you are good and cool with the staff after a few months you can ask if they will train you and then start letting you work. In 6 months you should be behind the bar. DONT go  to one of those bar tending schools. Bar tending jobs require experience. You wont get hired by just going to a school.

  6. Its the best job to get without going to college. I am a bartender at a casino. good money. Get the Las Vegas guide to bartending its like 7 bucks and has alot of current recipe's in it. If you can find a spot that will let you be a barback thats your best option unless you take a course. Good Luck.

  7. Bartending is the kind of job you do at night when you are working on a real career during the day - like going to graduate school or starting your own business.  It's best to start off as a bar assistant (pulling draught beers) then move up to bartender once you learn the ropes.  Find a good drink guide and learn how to make some popular drinks (Cosmopolitans, Martinis, Daiquiris...).  Some places have their own specialty drink menus and will train you how to make the house drinks.
