  1. Yep, just like red devil said, the cruise line wants the best they can get. If you really want the job, do your homework and get better than just the minimum.

  2. Yeah, sometimes companies are not looking for minimum criteria individuals, but set these "criteria" to single out perspective employees.  I know this hold true for airlines, I have also noticed they are more lenient towards ground crew than flight crew's. It may also be it just takes a while to check backgrounds since 9/11.

  3. Maybe it is because you have only met the 'minimum criteria'. Companies looking to hire want the best, not someone who has only the bare basics to offer.

  4. There are a tremendous amount of applicants to this career field.  I worked for a major airline for 20 years (as a flight attendant) , resigned, got a divorce and needed a job again.

I applied to Delta, and even with all my years of experience I was not hired.  The recruiters told us that they had 40,000 applicants.  Out of my group of 50 interviewees, only 4 were hired.   I am well-versed in all FAA regulations, have efficiently handled on-board emergencies (both flight and medically related) and gave correct answers to all of their in flight 'scenarios'.  I have an excellent, professional appearance, was very well dressed  felt like I gave an excellent interview.  Yet, I was passed over for people who had no customer service skills --- or at least no where near as much as I.   Go figure.

Among the other candidates who were not hired were several nurses, an EMT, and several people who had excellent bi-lingual skills.  You would think that all of them much more than met the minimum criteria.   When I was hired by my previous airline I had NO customer service skills as I had previously worked as a technician doing chemical analysis on wine.

All I can say is just keep trying, and best of luck.

  5. Because someone had more skills than you. Study up on the company your interviewing for and learn different languages, this is always a valuable asset.

  6. is your last name Bin laden?

  7. Yes, I agree... Just meeting the bare minimums is not good enough to get a job in a position where there are many better qualified applicants ahead of you.  If you want to get ahead in life, don't settle for the minimum qualifications.  Be the best, or go home!
