I want to be a cheerleader but...

I dunno usually in my school all the cheerleaders are thin and i'm a little thick plus I'm gunna be a sophomore and have no idea what to expect any advice?

  1. go for it! the girls are thin BECAUSE they do cheerleading. its a great way to get a lot of exersize. it doest matter how big u are as long as u just have lots of spirt, confidence, and energy u will nail the try outs


  2. Hey! It doesn't matter thick or thin its what you can do and how to pep the viewers! I'm sure you will make a great cheerleader!

  3. being thin isnt everything, its not like its the style or the latest trend, its about being bubbly,energetic and having school spirit. if you dont have any experience on cheerleading you can simply go online and find cheer camps and gymnasics camps that can even be as short as a week long, you can learn the hand motions and basics and when you go to try outs you will only have to memorize the cheer or dance routine. also if you hae any friends that cheer or anyone that you know that can help you call em up, its worth a shot! im sure you can even go to google and time in advice on cheering or google images and type in the hand motions ( high V ; low V; broken T; T: touchdown; dagers; clasp.)  good luck!

I'll be a sophomore this year too..and I have been cheering for 8 years..and I'm on the Varsity squad at my school..and I'm a little thick too...that has NEVER held me back from what I love to do...Being thin isn't everything..if EVERY cheerleader were thin...it would be hard to classify where they should be put while stunting and stuff like that...If you have never cheered before..then make friends with a couple of the girls on the cheerleading squad if you already aren't friends with any and ask them to help you with your skills so you know what to expect..It is really not hard to become a cheerleader..and it is SO much fun and SO rewarding..and it also isn't true that the cheerleaders get the football players and stuff like that...A lot of people act like that's what it's all about..but that is entirely not true..it's just all about having fun and doing what you love to do...=]...hope I helped!!!!!!!

  5. at my school the cheerleader arnt all skinny i think u should and if u dont make it bc u are thicker then that is crazy  

  6. hey. well u do not need 2 b thin 2 b a cheerleader. im kinda on the thick side 2 n i cheer for a division 1  school and wer # 1 in the state.

    this is wat u need:::::

    jumps: toe touch, herkie(right n sumtimez left), front, and sometimez pike

    *google search or youtube to see wat they look like

    cheer & dance: during the clinics u will learn a cheer and a dance. make sure u practice it alot at home!

    *MAKE SURE U KEEP UR MOTIONZ TIGHT!!!!!!

    tumbling: most varsity squads require tumbling. the most basic is a back hand sprain. theres also a back tuck, layout, pike, half, and full

    *see wat it looks like on youtube

    make sure u talk 2 all the girls that are tryin out. make sure that u r very confident! if ur not fake it! and u also need good facials. if u dnt really know how to do it then either talk 2 the girls which is a good way to start conversations with them and friendship or if ur not comfortable enough aroumd them jst smile. also start workin ur arm strength cuz ur gonna be a base. hope i helped. good luck!!!!


  7. Just wanted to comment on your 'thick' thing. Do NOT think being 'thick' is a bad thing. I'm on the Indiana University dance team, and we share practice area with the IU cheerleaders. When you get into college cheerleading, the girls are 'thick'. They are very short and are heavier set, because it's all built up muscle. So do not ever let your weight get in the way of anything!
