I've been thinking about going into mma(mixed martial arts) but i have no professinal training. I'm a pretty strong guy and i can wrestle pretty good but other than that i have no martial arts training. Do u think i still can be successful in this sport if i start training at 20 years old. Sometimes i just think how i would compare to someone who's been training in a martial art since they were a child!!!

  1. Dont hesitate or ask questions just do it. You can still be very skilled as long as your determined and committed you'll be ok. It doesnt matter if you dont have professional training, as long as you have training then you'll be ok. Use your instincts.

  2. GO FOR IT!

    whats worse then regret?

  3. you would need allot of training...the sport has evolved so much that only the best of the best make it...just because you are bigger or stronger than your opponent does not mean you can win...by any means...but h**l its worth a shot!!!

  4. there is no problem in starting the martial arts in ur age,, starting martial arts is not the measurement of their skills, i can say that the more determine u are the more that u can be successful

  5. You'll get your *** handed to you on a plate with a side salad. Take some martial arts classes for a couple of years, then try it out.

Not sure why americans are so obsessed with MMA but hey, I'm only a Taekwondo Black belt so what would I know? ;-P

  6. You sound like all the farmers daughters from Kansas who go to NYC to be a Broadway star!

    It's possible...

but the chances are slim to remote!

  7. I think that you should start martial arts training now, and go from there

  8. give it a shot if you like getting beat up

and keep your day job until you start making some real money

  9. go for it!

  10. What you need is a strong base. BJJ, Kickboxing, grappling, etc. don't worry about age. Good example ( Rich "ACE" Franklin ) he started when he was 28 years old. If this is something you really want to do, you will know it when you first step in the ring or octagon. And you feel that very first punch or kick hits you square in the face. You're heart starts to beat a little faster, vision is blur and you are on wobbly legs. Now if this is what you want you will know it then. as you recover and beat you opponent

  11. You could do great.

Training and self discipline are all you need. If you dedicate all your free time to exercise and training, you could easily become more skilled than someone who's trained since childhood with a minimal discipline.

  12. Yeah, you can be a MMA fighter, I would advise you though to study another Martial Art also, I would stay away from the more Traditional Martial Art's I would go for Aikido personally.

  13. you can do it!! as long as your mind and heart are set to it and you have a positive attitude you can accomplish it. just have positive thinking like instead of saying i think i can do this or i will try my best say:: i can do this and to my best ability i will achieve this personal goal of mine :)

  14. yes u can be successful. in fact alot of fighters didnt practice mma since they wre a child. like chuck lidell was a wrestler in high school then he started boxing after that then did mma. u can be successful if u train hard and keep at it.

  15. you have plenty of time. rich franklin was a teacher and at like 30 got into UFC and all that. and he was a great fighter! i've seen him knock out many guys. if you work hard and put all ur effort into it, u can do it. 20 isnt that old to start out.

  16. no your right youd be fighting guys who have fought all their lives, then you wouldnt have enough time to train up to that level by the time those fighters start retireing from fighting.

  17. If you can handle yourself naturally then I don't see why you can't just train in that certain area and build upon the skill you already have.

Just go for it, with your past experience in wrestling and things you obviously have motivation. Thats whats going to help you more then anything.

Just keep going on it and I don't see why you can't develop your skills in other areas to fit into fighting.

  18. its always better if you start out when you were young, but hey its worth a shot. im sure you can find a mma center in your area to get started. go to a lot of matches and work your way up in the sport. good luck, hopefully ill be seeing you on tv some day.

  19. Anyone can be succesful you just need the heart to do it, and the money to get training... And MMA isnt just about strength its a bout speed, and agility.

  20. it's never to late to start

you should be able to find somewhere local to learn some sort of Martial Art

  21. i think it just depends on how much determination to be successful at it you have. the more you have the higher your chances. the underdog can still win. i would say just be prepaired for lots of pain and broken noses.
