Question:

I want to be a flight attendant, but how?

I'm currently a senior in high school so you can imagine all the career options that are running in my mind. Of all things I've thought about, I keep coming back to this. Initially I wanted to be an ad agent, but now i realize I really do want to be a flight attendant. Since I've switched paths, I'm completely in the dark with how to go about it.

Does anybody (maybe someone that either is or know someone who is) know how I should go about starting the process of being a flight attendant?

Such as specific schooling, or training. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

  1. Well all you have to do is apply for a trainning school near by your place however you havent provided the location you live in.

The specification requred while hiring is mostly

    1. You Must look pretty (However I have seen some attendents they dont look good at all)

    2. You must be medically fit

    3. You must learn to be calm and handle difficult situations.

    4. You must be ready to fly at any time and no hesitations.

A flight attendent is a great job with a decent pay and a lovely life if you like to travel. You must learn to sacrifice your life towards the passengers, and deal with difficult situations well one of them I might say is " I remember my mate had vommited with using a bag on a plane and the flight attends were pretty mad"  and you have to be  away from your family.

After you finish high school you can join a trainning school look up the yellow pages or somewere do some research in your area.

Hope to meet you in the sky one day. Good luck

  2. Webster gives you a good answer. Do not go to a school claiming that they will teach you how to be a flight attendant. Here in the US all of the airlines will teach you what you will need to know.

In the US working for a major airline is preferred as to working for a regional airline. With the regional's you more than likely will be alone as the requirement for flight attendants is one flight attendant per fifty seats. Some people may prefer to work alone though.

Just some nice to know information, I believe Continental, Delta and Southwest are currently interviewing for flight attendants. Go to their respective web sites, it is usually listed in the About the Company category. There you should see employment opportunities. Here is a site for some general information on what requirements are for Continental.

Most are going to require you to be at least 21 yrs old. To better yourself if you learn another language it will help you in getting the job.

  3. You have to be 21 yrs of age to be a flight attendant! No Exceptions as per IATA regs unless is under 9 passengers (commuter flight) even here it is rare to find someone under 21. The reason is crew has to be at their legal drinking age etc world wide which is 21 as to comply with international law to be able to serve alcohol. That being said most airlines train you themselfs so you meet their stringent standards...If really interested try countries where aviation is booming. try etihad airways, emirates, gulf air......always hire expatriate cabin crew...and they usually have walkin interviews all over the world. They pay real good and the lifestyle in those countries is phenomenal .

  4. Many airlines train flight attendants themselves to suit their standards. But before that you must apply with some minimum requirements. First choose the airline you want to fly with and go to their website and find info about their career or employment issues.

I'll give you some general minimum requirements.

    1. Height should be 212cms on tip toes arm stretch

    2. Fluent in english . both spoken and written.

    3. Should be at least from 18 years.( these varies with airlines)

    4. Be medically fit.

    5. Height should be proportional to weight.

    6. An additional language! particularly if you want to fly with an airline who's home country's language is not english. However in countries where the native language ie english, additional language will be an asset. It's not limited to it. It will increase your chance of getting a job.

I hope this helps. I'm 17 in college now and hope to be an airline Pilot in 7 years. I really hope to see you in the skies.

    Good luck!
