  1. The better traits to possess for the caddie are: be attentive;know the etiquette of the game, have strength to carry the clubs, know where to stand when player wants to select a club; know the yardages of the shot your player will be hitting, replace any divot your player may take, carry a wet towel to clean the club head before replacing it in the bag, keep up with your player or walk in front of him on th way to the ball. know how to spot a ball which is hit into woods , rough or high grass, know where all the other balls of the players in the group are; know where to stand while tending the flagstick;  know where to place the bag while tending the flagstick. Be honest. Speak only when spoken to. Always address the player as Mister.

  2. You have to know when to shut up and when to offer advice.

Perception is key...get a feel for how your player is doing mentally.  Is he struggling? If so encourage him and keep thinking positive.  Say things like "one shot at a time".  If you notice he's lifting his head when hitting the ball say "keep you head down a little more and swing thru the ball"  You need to be detailed oriented.  Yardages are important to know and figure out (how far is it to carry the bunker, etc.).  You can't be sensitive, since the golfer might tell you to just carry the clubs and shut your trap, maybe he doesn't want any advice.  Another good trait is be relaxed and get your player to talk about something that makes them feel good (maybe he loves sushi---tell him about your experience with sushi)...the more relaxed they are the better they'll play and the better tips you'll get.  Lastly, you need to be a clean freak...make sure those grooves are spotless...wipe their grips a little..that's something few caddys do..and of course always always tell them they look great...find something you can compliment them on...make sure it's genuine..you don't want to come across as a fake.  Now starting right now, go make some good notes about the course you're gonna caddy at and be the most prepared caddy in the hole city...remember too much info is better than too little.

  3. I just got a job caddying at a prestige golf course this summer. You pretty much just need to know the game of golf and the more you are around it the better you will do. There are some things you have to learn however for caddying such as where you have to stand and so forth. Just make sure you have good eyes so you can watch the player's ball at all times and be attentive to the player.

  4. Bags weigh 20-40 pounds depending on style, club shafts, and what the golfer has in his/her bag.

    Traits in a caddy:

-The show up (on time), keep up, and shut up (unless asked for advice) principle.

    -Thorough understanding of golf ettiquette.

-Have a yardage book at the ready.

-Knowledge of the course; layout of fairways (and where trouble is/where to aim), and greens (break, pace, etc.).

    -Be a good listener.

  5. a strong back...those clubs are heavy
