I have wanted to be a marine biologist for a long time. I am only thirteen but I want to prepare for the future. I am getting scuba certified over the summer so that I can prepare myself, but I still feel like I could do more. I would like some information on the job. If anybody found some and posted it, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Marine biologists work mainly with sea plants and animals and freshwater biologists on lakes and rivers or for water companies and environmental agencies researching areas such as pollution concerns and depleted fish stocks resulting from over fishing. This is a highly scientific role and requires a first degree in the subject or a first degree in biology followed by a higher one in marine/freshwater biology. Some marine biologists work in aquarium or zoos that have a marine section. Other employment opportunities exist with the Natural Environment Research Council http://www.nerc.ac.uk/ or Defra’s marine and fisheries department http://www.defra.gov.uk/marine/index.htm

    Good Luck :)

  2. Contact Seaworld for their summer camp program.

  3. It may be a good idea to call into a local public aquarium and see if maybe you could talk to one of the biologists about their job -or- even better, be able to spend a few hours actually helping them out.

    Just a thought...
