  1. You could begin by researching Schizophrenia, for your own knowledge about your illness.  I have SZ, and reading about it and asking medical professionals about it really helped me to begin to cope with and manage my illness.  After that, you could get involved in support groups, and be pro-active in the mental health community.  If you have enough money and time to go to college to become a Psychologist, then I think that you ought to enroll in college.  Only time will tell, semester by semester, if you've got what it takes to be a doctor.  Don't think of your illness as a barrier, just as an obstacle that you can manage.

  2.   No offense and  wrong category, but that is something you should consult a medical professional about, and I assume with your disorder, you have one attending you?

As a Psych. major I can certainly see how it might affect judgements and advice given to those in need of a Psycholgists services, beyond even the fact that another with the same disorder might seek your help.

A schizophrenic is most often on medications, or should be, and the disorder has degrees in various symptoms. I mean no disrespect, but assume for a moment you could get that far, and that the disorder is often more a Psychiatry issue anyway. Assume you had a patient who had that disorder diagnosed clinically, and perhaps in your chat, triggered what you endure? OR you increased their symptomatic episodes?

Obviously it can only benefit you to educate yourself, most especially about the disorder, but that may never offer you a resolution in helping others, or aid in resolving confusion about why it exists in you.

IF you were ever able to get a handle on the WHY of it, even in a general sense, you might certainly be a valid mentor, or some level of counselor, but to go through the process of becoming a professional in the medical field? I certainly can't say.

  3. Well, it might. It probably will. But it's a bit like being deaf and writing music. No one thinks you could possibly do it, and then you end up doing it a h**l of a lot better than they can.

Do what you want. Don't let it stop you.

  4. You have schizophrenia, but you don't know how to spell it AND you are not on any medication?

    God help you.
