i am currently training for my private pilot certificate atm. I have had about 10lessons (10hrs of flying) and ive loved every last bit about it. I was just wondering. How do you pilots feel being able to fly and get paid. Also just out of curiosity, what type of planes do you fly?

  1. I'll tell you the TRUTH! The odds are you won't become a commercial pilot. With the skyrocketing cost of fuel, and airlines going into bankruptcy or cutting routes, and an endless supply of fully trained pilots coming out of military service,  the need for new pilots will be VERY limited. Listen to "Aviophage", she knows.

If you want to be successful in life stay in school, and get good grades. Go on to college and get at least a 4 year degree. That will put you in a position to be successful what ever you become, and if it is a commercial pilot, you were one of the fortunate few that beat the odds.

PS:  If you mess around with drugs you can forget about ever becoming a commercial pilot.

  2. Go for it! But, its hard to do and expensive and starting wages are terrible but, if you can get there and survive the first few years, I think it would be a very rewarding life.

  3. I'm not a pilot but I have a cousin who is.  He works for Air Canada.  Family get-togethers have him yapping non-stop about his job, so I think it's safe to say that he loves what he does.

The hours he works are tightly controlled and if he reaches the limit he has to take time off.  It's mandatory.

I don't know exactly how much he's making but I think it's got to be over $100,000 a year.  He's doing well enough to have a house three times the size of mine, with an inground pool.  The booger.

No idea what he flies.  Whatever they give him, I guess.

Hope this helps, likely it doesn't.

  4. Like getting paid.

  5. Well, you've got the first part.  You love to fly.  I have to agree with those who have said that perhaps the best flying is past, but, even on the worst day, I couldn't even image myself doing anything else.

  6. i dont fly yet but i want to so bad. the best ones to fly is the charters to get a lot of money or for a sports team or some super star.

  7. It was a great career.  I retired at just the right time.  The best times are over, and it will not be as good a career field as it was for the last 40 years.

You should also talk this over with your instructor to get a better feel for the career field.

I flew a wide variety of light airplanes and warbirds.  As a professional pilot I flew Beechcraft King Airs, Douglas C-47s, Douglas C-54s and C-118s, Boeing 727s, and various models of Boeing 747s.

It was fun, and I'm glad it's over.  Now I fly my 1946 Aeronca Chief on sunny afternoons with fleecy white clouds.  Sometimes my Doggie rides with me.  It's more fun than any airliner.

  8. im 14 in four days, it sounds weird but i daydream of flying, it's just one of those things I want to achieve and I really cant put my finger on it why...

I would love to serve my country in the RAF, I think so that I have achieved something and, I can be a respectful person. Money isn't all, I love the fun parts :D (and the hard ones to come)

Don't forget what you want to do, it gives you inspiration and that willpower, do it, be a man lol
