  1. The big airlines pay very well, but it takes years of experience following your training to work for one.

    Here's just a list of what you should prepare for:

    * FAA Medical Exam

    * 4 year college degree

    * Private license

    * IFR rating

    * Multi-engine rating

    * Commercial license

    * Possibly a CFI to get some easy experience

    * A year or two of time building in jobs such as instructing, touring, aircraft sales, or very small regionals

    * ATP license here, or after regionals (some require some don't)

    * A few years of regional airlines

    * Then you've hopefully made it to the big boys!

    If you don't want to join the airforce (must have a 4-year degree to be an officer and start pilot training, 1 year GA, 1 year seat assignment training, then 10 years commitment) then I would recommend finding a 4-year institution that offers these licenses along with the degree and some career connections.

    A good example is the University of North Dakota.

  2. more often then not, commercial pilots dont make a heck of alot of money, southwest is the company thats mainly doing well at the moment. you have to be able to keep in decent physical condition as you are required to take a medical every 6 months. i would start off at a flying school, learning simply how to fly a basic aircraft such as a Cessna, they will possibly be able to help you out more with pursuing your dream, telling you what steps need be taken after that. dont expect to live well for your first few years though. our family learned that the hard way.

  3. Every one has to start out small. Go to your local flight school or FBO and ask about getting a private pilot certificate. Thats where i began. They will be able to better help you out and guide you in the right direction. As for wearing glassess... no problem! All you need at the time of the physical is 20/20 or better. About your weight... just keep exersicing and eat healthy, its the best you can do. By the way, when you get hired by an airline dont expect to make more than 40grand a year. The big bucks come years later when you got seniority.
