i am attending a college right now for early childhood education (K-3) but i have known all along that i want to teach preschool. my mom told me not to get into that because there's not a lot of money, but the pay isn't why i want to do it. i am transferring to a community college because i can get my associate degree there for a lot less money and i don't want to make my parents shell out $32,000 for something i could a lot cheaper. if i get my associate degree, how much money do you think i will get paid being a preschool teacher? i live in ohio.

thankkkkkks so much :)

  1. Surely, there are a few preschools in your local area. Ask some of the teachers what they make. Be sure you tell them you have an interest in becoming a teacher. Or ask their human resource people; they can give you some idea.

  2. Go to salary.com and payscale.com and put in the information for that (just put your education as associate's like you already have it) and see what their estimates are for your area.

You may need a bachelor's and some special credential for this though, but it may depend on your state.

  3. I teach preschool in a Catholic school in Ohio.  I have a bachelor's in early childhood education (prek-3). Honestly, all public and private grade schools require a bachelor's degree, so your chances of getting hired are pretty slim.  You might be able to work at a daycare/preschool but pay is usually pretty low.  I have worked at a daycare/preschool for $9.00 an hour, but that is usually the highest rate around.   I currently make under 20K a year with a bachelor's degree.

  4. I used to be a Montessori pre-school teacher. At the school I was paid 48000.00 a year. I too love pre-school age children. Now I teach pre-school from my home. I have 6 students and am able to work with them individually when it is needed. I know make 55000.00 a year. The possibility is there. I think I make pretty good money, and the reason I do is my reputation. Parents wanted me to teach their children because of my teaching skills. I also am a spanish teacher.

    Best of Luck to you.

  5. Check into what is required for a preschool teacher in your state.  I have a degree in early childhood (P-3) not (K-3). I also have a degree in elementary (K-6).  I now have a job in a public school teaching pre-k.  I had to have the P for preschool to have the job. If you have a chance to get your bachelors degree, do it!  You will never regret it. I get paid on the same salary schedule as what K-6 teachers do( About 37,000 a year ), but I get paid less because I work less hours 8:45-1:15.So be careful! In Dec. I will have my master's and that will help with my pay.

Lots of factors in there. Good Luck! :)
