but I think my parents will find it strange since they wanted to send me to a psychiatrist, and I didn't want to go! Mainly because I know what they do so much so that I know that I can help myself. But I still like the learning about the mind, so should I go for it and not care about their possible strange reaction?

  1. You should pursue psychiatry if you are so passionate about it. Never mind your parents' reaction because most people will have odd reactions when you tell them what you're studying! :)

  2. Go for it.  Personally, I think an intelligent psychiatrist would be a nice addition to the pool.  Many of the ones that are currently employed are not very intelligent and hence do no good helping people well-educated, intelligent people.

  3. It's kind of you to consider your parents (great) however remember they gave you life to live not for them ...for you to live ...go live it

    This seems appropriate

    Step forward

A thousand disappointments in the past cannot equal the power of one positive action right now. Go ahead and go for it.

If you've previously told yourself that it can't be done, this is the moment to change your assumption. When you can dream it, imagine it and visualize it, you can do it.

Instead of making excuses, make some progress. Instead of looking back with regret, step forward with enthusiasm.

Choose to define yourself based on the person you know you can become. Choose to see your life in terms of the best of what is possible.

If you focus too much on the past, you'll be held back by limitations that may no longer even exist. Instead, look forward with positive expectation, and you'll find yourself quickly moving in a forward direction.

A new, fulfilling reality is calling to you. Step forward right now, and begin to make it happen.

    ...

  4. "I know what they do so much so that I know that I can help myself."

I guess you can skip college, skip medical school, skip your internship, and skip that three-year psychiatric residency, and go right into practice.

  5. oh yeah...you gotta enjoy what your learning and you'll probably love it

  6. Do what YOU wanna do. Don't worry about what other people think. The reason so many people are unhappy now is because they never listened to their hearts. They always listened to the mouths of other people. And you said your parent's wanted to send you to a psychiatrist? Well if you go through hard times mentally, it just means that you're better able to have compassion and understanding for your patients because you'll have known what they've been through.

    Good luck and God Bless!

  7. Go for it...don't worry about others reaction u should be goin for urself and noone else

  8. Well, having at one time wanted to go into psychology myself, I looked very deep into what it is like and what it takes to be successful. It takes as much to become a psychiatrist as it does a doctor, because you need you Ph. D. Plus, about over 50% of people who hvae gone to and finished college have majored in psychology, so it is a very competitive field. Consider a specialty in psychology other than becoming a psychiatrist, like child development and the likes of that. As far as your parents go, they should support you no matter what you do! And before you make up your mind, try taking a psychology class in high school. It really helps you understand psychology professions much more. Good luck!

  9. Go for it. I'm kind of in the same position myself. But I told my parents about it and at first they thought they were joking but other than that their reaction was normal.
