  1. unless you're 16 or above, most places won't allow you to volunteer with patients. what you can try and do is volunteer at the local hospital. it's fun and you get to meet all types of people.

  3. Crisis hotlines, domestic violence shelters, Planned Parenthood and homeless shelters all present opportunities to learn about and support people who need mental health/emotional support. You can expect to go through a great deal of training and screening before you area allowed to volunteer at these organizations. You may not be permitted to volunteer in client services because of your age, but you will get exposure to the problems faced by the people there and how professionals address such.

  4. If there is a V. A. hospital in your vicinity that is a good place to do volunteer work.  They are always shorthanded and need volunteers.  Most hospitals are in need for them.
